North Eastern Railway Class S2 No.825 outside Darlington paint shop.
Out of a class of 20, the last of the class, No.825 was fitted with unique Stumpf Uniflow cylinders.
Comparative trials in 1913 were sufficient that after World War 1, the system was also fitted to the last of the Class Z (LNER C7) Atlantics.
Due to the special maintenance attention required for this experimental locomotive, in March 1924, the LNER rebuilt 825 as a standard B15 but the C7 Atlantic lasted until 1932
