The Bedale, LNER D49/2 Class 4-4-0 Hunt Class, designed by Nigel Gresley.

The painting depicts The Bedale on the outskirts of York, with Severus Hill water tower in the distance.

The London and North Eastern Railway D49/2's were a class of 4-4-0 steam locomotives designed by NIgel Gresley and built at Darlington works. They were all named after fox hunts.

Built fom 1928, they were fitted with Lentz oscillating cam poppet valves rather than the more common Walschaerts motion of the D41/1 Shires
