North Eastern Railway class 66 Aerolite with the NER inspection saloon 1661 in tow, outside York Shed, waiting for the inspectors to board.

The NER coal wagons are seen on the elevated coaling stage together with the smaller coal trollies. The trollies were used to tip the coal directly into the tenders.

North Eastern Railway class 66 was later reclassified as LNER Class X1. It was originally built as a 2-2-2T, then rebuilt as a 4-2-2T and finally as a 2-2-4T.

The engine is in preservation and can be seen at Locomotion, Shildon.
